Filter, (2017) is a reworking of a poem I wrote a few months back. I was invited to include a poem for a group show on a boat docked in quite an aspirational marina in Rummelsburg,Berlin. The organisers decided to tape the work to a flip-chart, which although I wasn’t sure made a lot of sense, I liked it anyway. On board, one felt more like one was in an office or new apartment than on a boat, but it felt unstable and made one feel queasy and slightly disorientated. I had my reservations at first about showing a work on a boat, because of its sentimental connotations, especially showing a poem, but I was happy that it wasn’t the case with this. If anything, the instability of the floating office/apartment seemed analogous to general precarity and the uncertainty/anxiety alluded to in the poem.
